Main Menu | HomeDANSVILLE PUBLIC LIBRARY COMPUTER USE POLICY Dansville Public Library provides computers for use by the public for job searches, résumé writing and Internet access.
The Internet is an information resource that Dansville Public Library makes available to the public, but the Library takes no responsibility for the content that may be outdated, erroneous, libelous or offensive.
There are no computer use fees. Documents may be printed for 15 cents per page.
The Job Information Computer may be limited to use by those seeking employment. Staff is aware that Job Search and résumé writing may require more than one hour: please check with staff on availability.
Children under the age of 7 must be accompanied by an adult to use any computer.
Anyone under the age of 18 must have a parent sign a Permission Card in the presence of library staff in order to use any Internet computer stations. The Web contains some printed and visual materials which some parents may find inappropriate for their children. Parents or legal guardians are solely responsible for their child.s use of the Internet.
Users must sign in at the Main Desk before use. Sign-in will be interpreted as agreement to abide by the Rules for Use as posted near the computer stations.
Sessions are limited to one hour.
Chat rooms are not permitted.
No more than two people may be at a computer station at one time. Sessions may be terminated and privilege withdrawn at the discretion of library staff for inappropriate use of services. "Inappropriate use" includes, but is not limited to:
Users have the right of confidentiality and the right of privacy. However, security is technically difficult to achieve and the computer is in a public location. Electronic transactions and the viewing screen could become public and the Library cannot guarantee privacy or confidentiality.
- viewing sexually explicit material
- use of equipment in a way which may damage it
- loud or disruptive behavior
- attempting to alter the system.s settings or configuration
- use of chat rooms
In compliance with the Children's Internet Protection Act, the Library maintains a content filter on the Internet connection. Because the content of Internet pages changes rapidly, the Library cannot guarantee that inappropriate or offensive materials will be blocked. Furthermore, the filter may inadvertantly block sites which contain information of value to the user. In this case users may request the filter be turned off for 30 minutes.
WIRELESS INTERNET ACCESS TERMS OF SERVICE Dansville Public Library provides wireless Internet access for patrons using personal laptop computers equipped with a wireless network connection.
The Library's wireless network is not secure. Information sent from your laptop can be captured by anyone with a wireless device and appropriate software within or near the Library. Library staff cannot provide technical assistance. The Library assumes no responsibility for the safety of your equipment or for any alterations or loss of configurations, security, or data files resulting from connection to the Library's wireless network. Printing capability is not available.

Dansville Public Library reserves the right to require individuals to discontinue the display of information or images which could cause a disturbance in this, a public building. Dansville Public Library reserves the right to deny wireless access to anyone at any time and can make no guarantees about the availability or proper function of this service.
