Long Range Plan Is Adopted

Plan of Service for 2007-2011 Announced

1/25/2007 — Using a planning process that emphasizes community participation, the Dansville Public Library worked with facilitator Patricia Stocker and a Planning Committee whose members provided a broad representation of community needs and interests, to develop a long-range plan of service. The plan, which is available for review at the Library, concentrates on three service responses recommended by the Planning Committee: Lifelong Learning, Commons, and Current Titles and Topics.

Lifelong Learning involves the Library addressing people's desire for self-directed personal growth and development opportunities. Commons refers to the Library providing an environment which helps address the need of people to meet and interact with others in their community and to participate in public discourse about community issues. Current Titles and Topics emphasizes the Library as the place which helps to fulfill community residents' appetite for information about popular cultural and social trends and their desire for satisfying recreational experiences.

The Dansville Public Library was one of a select number of libraries chosen for a New York State Library Services and Technology Act grant through the Pioneer Library System to pay for the planning process. The plan includes goals and objectives which can be measured. Concrete activities during the 5-year life of the Plan reflect the library's future expanded facility.

The Library expresses its appreciation to the following Planning Committee members for giving of themselves to represent our community: Adele Bovard, Stacey Corriea, Richard deAsis, Bud Gee, Barry Haywood, Mary Ann Holden, Dorothy Hotchkiss, Dennis Mahus, Sherrie Reilly, Sam Riedel, Marie Roberts, Jane Schryver, Mark Schuster, Mary Stepanik, John Vogel, Joseph Weider, George Weidman, and Ruth Witte.
